Gloomy Tuesday In The UP

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Today is cloudy and rainy out. I am sick with a severe sinus/inner ear infection. I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me some medicine for it. So far I am still feeling pretty crappy. My youngest daughter was here with our three grandkids from July 8-22. We went camping and had bbq’s here. It was great fun and already I miss them. It is sooo quiet now!! I went to work yesterday and had to leave after half of my shift; pretty sick! My father-in-law is in the hospital again with the same infection he had before. Swamprat went to visit him this morning before work. I am too sick to go and see him this time. He should be out of the hospital later today? The poor man is in his 80’s and hasn’t ever had this many illnesses in his whole life!!

The weather has been extremely muggy and temps have soared in high 90’s. We sure have had a good summer! This Saturday we are going fishing in the annual “Canteen Fishing Derby”. The top prize is $1,000.00! We start at 5 a.m. and go until 5 p.m.. They put a free dinner on for us Saturday night. Friday we have to go there and turn our money in and find out who the teams will be. We hope to go with our friends Ron & Roberta. Hope I am feeling alittle better by then? If not, I can sleep in the bow of the boat for awhile. I don’t want to miss the chance of going fishing again. It is promising to be good weather, let’s hope so? We will probably go to our favorite fishing hole for lake trout or salmon. That’s the fish we are going for in this contest. The other ones we have been in on the smaller lake are for Walleye and Pike through the ice.

I lost 20 pounds since my last visit to the doctor. Wish I could lose another 15 pounds? It is hard when you don’t have the chance to exercise. I have stairs at work and I go for walks with one of the residents there, but apparently that is not enough? When you work 12 hour shifts you are too tired for exercising though. Alot of people are quitting lately at work. With our new Walmart Super Store, everybody is going there? I won’t take a pay cut, so I am hoping for a job with more pay will come up around here. Not likely!! I would love to quit my job but it isn’t really an option right now? I could get a job in any pharmacy with my medical experience though or a hospital. They pay only minimum wage here though? I was surprised at that! I keep looking in our local newspaper and hoping for a way to get another job less stressful.

Swamprat wants to be a charter captain on the Great Lakes someday? That is HIS dream, not mine. I would like to own some cabin business by the lake or a bed and breakfast place. Property is outrageous here right now though, especially if it is near the water? Taxes are ridiculous too, so my dream might not come true unless a miracle happens. I am hoping that I could go into business with someone and then the fianancial burden wouldn’t all be on me! Our area is growing by leaps and bounds here. People are sick of the cities and are looking for areas like ours to retire in or raise their children without fear. The houses have been going up left and right in our area and it’s scarey to see it happening here. You can still walk on our streets at night with no fear of crime, but soon that will all change with the increase in population happening here. There will be fewer places that are safe to live in unfortunately.

Don’t know why they want to grow without industry here? We are strictly tourism or else people work at the colleges or hospitals/nursing homes. We also have a couple of paper mills that pay well, but the jobs are few and far between there. You have to know somebody to get into alot of the places and it is usually partime positions. I love the titles they have: Temporary Part Time, Permanent Part Time, or Irregular Part Time? haha What ever happened to Full Time? You are lucky if you get a Full Time position! There is also Call-In positions. You can’t live your life waiting to work! If you are ready and willing you should be able to work. These days both spouses have to work or you go without! It’s a crazy world we live in and it’s not getting any better. Live each day as if it were your last……I like that!

Hello world!
